📱 What is MemScreen?

MemScreen is a smartphone application designed to screen for mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a condition often preceding Alzheimer’s disease. The app offers a quick, self-administered test assessing both global cognition and verbal memory, under the supervision of a healthcare provider. It’s available for both Android and iOS devices and can be integrated into routine clinical practice.

🔬 What Did the Study Show?

Our study validated MemScreen in two populations:

  • General population (UK - Whitehall II Study): In over 2,000 older adults, MemScreen outperformed traditional tools like the MMSE and TMT-A with an AUC of 0.87, and balanced sensitivity (78.6%) and specificity (78.7%) for detecting MCI.
  • Memory clinics (France): In 303 patients with memory complaints, MemScreen also performed well for identifying amnestic MCI (AUC 0.87) with a sensitivity of 93%.

💡 Why It Matters

Early detection of cognitive decline is crucial to offer timely diagnosis, interventions, and access to new treatments. MemScreen provides:

  • Short testing time (under 5 minutes)
  • Automated scoring
  • High sensitivity for early memory disorders
  • Easy use in modern clinical workflows

🚀 What's Next?

MemScreen is freely available to healthcare professionals and is being considered for broader use in primary care settings. It represents a practical, validated tool to support early referral to memory clinics.

🧠 Because early detection makes a difference.
